Bonus Content: PANW’s $21B Backlog Is the Number the Selloff Is Ignoring

A note from our friends at The Oxford Club(ad)

Reader,

If my math is correct, what I’m about to reveal here could generate as many as 410 new millionaires a day.

It’s a brand-new project I call “The Presidio Initiative.”

And the window to get in early is open right now.

I will explain everything in a short video…

I’ll even tell you a way to invest in this right now with a 100% FREE recommendation revealed in the video.

Watch my presentation here.

Yours in smart speculation,

P.S. Billionaires are already backing this mega-project. Including Elon Musk. According to one respected futurist (and New York Times bestselling author): “Twenty-trillion-dollar checks (are) waiting to be cashed.” But nobody is talking about this quite like what I will show you…

Go here to see what I mean.

PANW’s $21B Backlog Is the Number the Selloff Is Ignoring

Palo Alto Networks reported its strongest quarter in company history on September 1, and the stock dropped more than 9% the next session. As of today, PANW sits near $331, down sharply from the $382 handle it held hours before the report. The disconnect between the fundamentals and the price action is the most important question active traders face in the cybersecurity sector right now.

What the Numbers Actually Say

Q4 revenue came in at $3.41 billion, up 34% year over year, while full-year revenue reached about $11.5 billion, up 24%. Those are not slow-growth figures. More important for positioning is the forward visibility: RPO closed at $21.2 billion, up 34% year over year, with current RPO at $9.3 billion, also up 34%. That $21.2 billion is revenue already under contract, the largest backlog in the company’s history and the first time it has crossed the $20 billion threshold.

Net new NGS ARR reached nearly $1 billion added during Q4 alone, representing nearly twice the volume added in the same period last year. The company also highlighted continued progress in platformization, and said XSIAM ARR exceeded $700 million and Prisma AIRS surpassed $100 million in ARR.

Why the Stock Sold Off Anyway

The market is now asking sharper questions about how much of that growth comes from organic momentum and how much comes from acquisition strategy. The concern is legitimate. GAAP net income swung from a $254 million profit in Q4 2025 to a $282 million loss this quarter, driven by soaring stock-based compensation and amortization. Profit-taking after a 109% year-to-date run into earnings added further pressure. Shares dropped more than 9% the session after the report, with analysts flagging $315 as the first meaningful support level.

FY2027 Guidance and the Real Trade

For fiscal 2027, management guided revenue of $14.1 to $14.2 billion, representing 23 to 24% growth, with NGS ARR of $11.075 to $11.175 billion and RPO of $25.2 to $25.4 billion. Net revenue retention for the platformized customer cohort exceeded 120% in Q4. That metric matters because it tells you existing customers are expanding spend, not just renewing it.

The company guided adjusted profit of $4.16 to $4.19 per share for fiscal 2027, with the midpoint above Wall Street’s average estimate of about $4.10. Non-GAAP operating margin reached 29.6% in Q4, while full-year adjusted free cash flow was $4.41 billion at a 38.4% margin.

Three Scenarios From Here

Bull Case ($370+): The $315 support holds, organic bookings growth acceleration confirmed in Q1 FY2027 (currently expected November 18), and the market re-rates the RPO backlog as a premium durable-growth asset. Wedbush added PANW to its Best Ideas list this week, which anchors institutional conviction on the buy side.

Base Case ($320 to $350): PANW consolidates in its current $327 to $342 range as the market weighs GAAP losses against NGS ARR momentum. Valuation compression continues until Q1 FY2027 results provide cleaner organic growth disclosure.

Bear Case (below $315): Macro risk-off accelerates sector rotation out of high-multiple tech. The GAAP net loss widens further as acquisition integration costs stay elevated, and the organic versus acquired growth debate becomes the dominant framing through November.

Tactical Framework

Current daily volume of 4.68 million shares is meaningfully below the 7.22 million average, and the 52-week range spans $139.57 to $398.88, suggesting the post-earnings compression has not yet resolved into a clean trend. Traders monitoring a re-entry need to see volume confirm price at or above the $330 level before treating the pullback as exhausted. The $315 area represents the prior July base and the level at which seller remorse has historically produced support. The next earnings date has not been confirmed by the company, but is currently estimated for November 18, and that catalyst can resolve the organic growth question the market is currently penalizing.

Preparation here means knowing both sides of the data. The backlog is real. The GAAP losses are real. The trade is in understanding which one the market is pricing incorrectly.
